IN MY BACKYARD - SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

 

April 2 – Guided Vegetable Garden Tour (10:00 am – 1:00 pm) Free and open to all.

Begins at 10:00 meet inside First Congregational Church for refreshments and and overview of In My Backyard before setting out on the tour.

April 9 – COOL Williamstown Launch/Composting Workshop (10-11:30 am ) Free and open to all

at First Congregational Church

START YOUR OWN VEGETABLE GARDEN $60/ Registration required and space is limited.

When:Five Saturdays, April 16th – May 28th, 3:00 – 4:30 pm

Where:First Congregational Church, 906 Main St, Williamstown, MA

Instructor:LINDA WAGNER *

$60 fee Includes five classes with step-by-step instructions on creating and caring for your own 4’X8’ garden. Cost includes compost, seeds, seedlings and a handbook- “The Sustainable Vegetable Garden – A Backyard Guide to Healthy Soils and Higher Yields” by John Jeavons and Carol Cox. Participants will be mentored by an experienced gardener.

Schedule

April 16… ”Living Lightly” talk / What are your Goals? / pairing with garden mentors /”soilcles” / Site selection /Hand out stakes and string.

April 30… Demonstration of double digging at FCC Demonstration Garden/plant selection/crop rotation/select “crop mob” teams.

May 7 and 14…Crop Mob Teams double dig the home gardens.

May 28…Planting of seeds and seedlings/FCC Garden

June 25…Tending the garden/ tricks of the trade/follow up visits decided by families/ FCC Garden

*Linda Wagner holds a certificate from The Royal Horticultural Society, UK and National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) in Amenity Horticulture, UK.  Supervising the WES Children’s Garden has been one of her responsibilities for the past five years.  In addition she consults with local homeowners as a garden coach, helping people maintain and design their home garden.
